Do the Difficult Things That You’ve Never Done

You have to do the things that you think you cannot do. You have to do the things that scare you, because things will only turn out the way you want if you are willing to do the difficult things that you’ve never done, and yes, many of them will scare you. ~Cheryl Strayed

Be inspired by other athletes
You know that you have to do something you’ve never done before if you want to live a full life. The same goes for athletes. I know because I’ve been there myself. Many people would be hesitant to run a marathon, let alone an ultra-marathon with more than 100 miles on foot, but that is what makes it so amazing. When we do things we never thought possible, it awakens our talents and skills that we never knew existed!

Try your best, let go of results
In order to do what you’ve never done, you need to let go of the result. Let go of what other people think or want from you. Let go of what society expects from you. Let go of your expectations for yourself. Get out there and try something new and see how it goes. Learn from your mistakes and become a better person in the process.

Challenge yourself with new activities every season
If you’re looking for a new challenge, try something different each season. Winter is great for snowboarding and skiing; spring brings baseball, softball, and lacrosse; summer offers rafting and kayaking; autumn is an excellent time for hiking or biking. The possibilities are endless!

Don’t do it alone
Starting a new business is difficult and there are many challenges to face. It can be hard to find people you trust in your network who have the skills necessary to help you through this process. Here are five tips for getting started: 1) Find people in your network that have done what you’re doing before and ask them if they would be interested in working with you on developing a plan. 2) Ask friends and family for advice–they might know somebody who has been through this process before.

Surround yourself with encouraging people
Find people who will support you and tell you the truth. Surround yourself with friends and family who are invested in your success, can help you brainstorm solutions to problems, and are happy for you when things go well.
