Ever since school, we have been told to compete and beat others in order to succeed. This has become such an ingrained part of our mindset that we don’t even question it any more. However, when you take the time to stop and think about it, you realize that this way of thinking doesn’t serve you in the long run. That’s why I decided to switch my focus from competition to contribution—and I can honestly say that my life changed forever in the best possible ways!
Celebrating our Differences
The world is filled with so many different people. We are all so unique in our own way. By celebrating our differences we can learn from each other. One of the best ways to celebrate our differences is by sharing what makes us special with others. Sharing allows us to show gratitude for who we are and where we come from. Another way to celebrate our differences is by being kind to one another.
Working with Others
If you are to succeed in life, you have to learn how to work with others. The key is to be willing to share your insights and ideas with others. The rewards for doing so far outweigh the risks. And when you stop competing and start contributing, life becomes a celebration.
Acknowledge & Appreciate People
Acknowledge your competition. Appreciate the people in your life who are your true friends. Acknowledge the gifts you’ve been given. Appreciate all of the good that has come into your life. Celebrate what’s ahead of you because there is so much to look forward to!
Taking Risks
Risk is the only way to get to your desired destination. If you are not willing to take risks, then you will never know what could have been. Plus, taking risks isn’t just about the possibility of failure. It’s also about the opportunities that come with them.
Celebrating even the smallest Achievements
No matter how small, every accomplishment is something to be celebrated. It’s not about being better than the next person; it’s about acknowledging the person and their accomplishments. Even if you don’t win first place in that race, you’re still an amazing runner. If you didn’t get to be President of your class this year, there are still plenty of things that make you special.
Learning New Things
If you’re like most people, you’ve been told that the key to getting ahead is competing against others in order to win or get ahead. But the real key is to move your focus from competition to contribution. When we compete, we view other people as either winning or losing—and when they lose, we say good riddance. But when we contribute our gifts and talents in service of others without any expectations for return on investment (or ROI), then life becomes a celebration.
Celebrate your Small Victories
In this world of social media where everyone is competing for attention and likes, it’s easy to forget the power of contribution. You don’t have to be the best at something to make an impact. It doesn’t matter if you’re not the fastest runner or can’t play guitar like Jimi Hendrix – there are so many ways you can contribute and celebrate your small victories!
