In his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, author Stephen Covey talks about the importance of living your life according to true north principles instead of only heading in the direction of our own egos. In doing so, you will find happiness, peace, and satisfaction in every aspect of your life. Here are three ways ego can hurt your life if you’re not careful and how you can overcome those issues through love.
Step 1: Identify your ego
The ego is the part of ourselves that, when unchecked, can lead to feelings of superiority and self-importance. It can also lead to feelings of deep insecurity or insignificance if it’s not satisfied with what we have accomplished or who we are as people.
Step 2: Take Action
In the end, what’s most important to keep in mind is that it’s not about winning and losing–it’s about the actions you take and how you treat yourself and others when things don’t go your way. The quality of our lives depends on the character we build and how we treat those around us, so don’t let your ego get in the way of that!
Step 3: Vow to love again
Don’t give up on love! Even if you have to start over again, don’t let the defeat define who you are. Get up, brush yourself off and vow to love again!
Step 4: Update your resume
I am pursuing my Bachelors of Arts degree in Communications with a minor in Social Media Marketing and Management. I am currently interning at _ as the Social Media Marketing Specialist, which entails writing and distributing engaging posts to our company’s various social media platforms on an hourly basis. I also handle all branding efforts for the company, including updating the company’s logo and designing promotional flyers to be distributed at various trade shows and conventions.
Step 5: Create action plan
- Create an action plan to keep the struggle between ego and love from taking over your life, which includes keeping the following thoughts in mind: Even if you win, it’s still a loss. Even if you lose, it’s still a victory.
Step 6: Jot down questions/comments
What do you think? Is ego really more important than love, or vice versa?
